As population explode and more people occupied the land in the future, sometimes I shudder at the prospect of having a crowded earth where most people have a hard time settled on a house, as the land is already scarce and therefore, many people have to end up homeless. I am aware that this possibility is unsettlingly likely to happen. Therefore, I think that one of the most important innovations humankind need the most nowadays is how to have a house that will not take too much space. A space-wise-but-still-comfortable-house as I would like to call it.
Anyway, being someone who came from a family with some of its members having heavy architectural education background, I was really determined to make this happen. Luckily, I have an aunty who shares the same idea. She already has this revolutionary idea in her mind of creating a house which will consume the least space, but is highly efficient as it has multifunctional concept as its main forte. Well, of course I was really interested. She began her project at about five years a go, now her house has already done, and I must admit that I am totally impressed with her effort.
If I have to be honest, her house is actually only consisted of a living room, I am not kidding. I had this mixed reaction when I saw the final result of her house, but still silently hoping that she will have tricks up her sleeve so I waited patiently as she showed me around her house. The living room was spacious, with only minimalistic furniture to go around. My expectation turned out to be granted as she opened the wall near the living room, revealing a kitchen. It was really an amazing sight to behold, I felt like someone in a science fiction genre or something back then. But anyway, the surprises were far from over as after she cooked meal for me, she proceeded to reveal another part of her house which located underground; the dining room. Never in my life had I had a meal at a hobbit-styled dining room located underground, just like in my aunt’s house.
When the evening turned into night, we back again to the living room as she pulled out a remote control, and after she pushed some button, the book case flipped, revealing a set of LCD TV attached to the wall. We watched TV and talked a lot, I praised her for her work and she was just laughing, brushing it all off, saying that the concept her house was actually not that rare in this day and age as innovation is advancing like crazy. At night, she surprised me again with a floating bed came from the concealed ceiling above the living room. As the bed descended to the floor, I can see the ceiling is actually covered with glass window that allowed us to see directly to the night sky filled with stars as the surrounding of her house is quiet and located in the countryside. She set up another bed near her and I spend the night at her house, feeling overwhelmed with all of this unique concept; yet even though I wasn’t the one who did the job, but I felt that my dream have been achieved for a space-wise multifunction house concept, and I was really happy for that.
